Dinner
I just returned from dinner with Artur, my classmate. I love him. He is everything that I am not and I am everything that he is not, and yet, we have a wonderful time together. He was awoken this morning by a message to his phone from a friend in Poland that said, "Call your girlfriend. Ask her what happened and then give me a call and I'll tell you the truth." Knowing Artur's own misadventures in SH, I am not too sorry for him, but, nonetheless, he was called by his girlfriend at least fifteen times in the first twenty minutes of our meal and then, when she called from a number he didn't recognize, and he finally answered, he said her voice sounded afraid and worried. We then discussed all sorts of topics, ranging from what the best product might be to export to Poland, to what a truelove relationship involves and needs to stay alive to what EXACTLY constitutes cheating. Yet again, I find that cheating has a blurry description when a man explains the parameters.
Sadly, I feel that Artur will not be joining me, yet again, in class tomorrow, due to a night out late. The last time I saw him, we were in the lift with an 18 yr old Chinese girl we met in the restaurant that Artur said, "I want to eat her up with a SPOOON" about. She lives in our apartment building and is going out dancing with friends tonight. Artur was smitten when he asked her how she had wounded her left hand and she said she had hurt it in a kite-flying accident yesterday. I think that was the point that he looked at me and said, "I might be in love"....I'm sure this new found affair has everything to do with the call he needs to make to his girlfriend back in Poland.
Although I was acting as translator for the nubile affair, I said my goodnights and parted with the young couple at the fifth floor. As the doors closed, I heard the girl say - in Chinese - "Do you need to go to your room?" and Artur responded, "I like very much dancing...I am Artur".
