Confession

I’ve gone to KFC. Actually, I’ve been twice now. Once was on Friday night when Monica and Christina and I went to the Superbrand mall in Pudong. Christina and Monica had already eaten because I was an HOUR AND A HALF late to meet them (!!! – story involves a pedicure debacle and I’ll spare you the details) so I was hungry and needed to eat something fast as we were going to try and catch a movie at the VIP movie theater. Side note: we didn’t go see the movie because it was Christina’s last day and she only wanted to see Pirates of The Caribbean and it isn’t in China yet, so I’m not sure what makes a VIP movie theater, VIP. Maybe there will be one in Wuhan for me to check out.
So KFC. Actually, you’ll be really surprised to hear that what I ordered was not only tasty, but probably healthy too! They have something here called the Peking wrap, which contains fried chicken strips (wait, I’m not finished!) in a thin rice wrap with scallions, FRESH cucumbers and Hoisin sauce (also known as plum sauce). The cucumbers are to die for and the wrap’s name comes from the famous dish, Peking Duck. Peking duck isn’t fried, but otherwise, it is kind of the same. You’re given the meat of a succulent roasted duck, some thin rice pancakes reminiscent of tortillas (they’re really small, though, only about three or four inches in diameter), some onion slices and the sauce. You make little wraps for yourself while the duck meat and the pancakes are hot. Then, the rest of the duck comes out to you in a “digestive soup”.
Of course, I was given fries with the wrap, but the order was TINY, so it wasn’t that bad for me, right? However, I think the things are addictive because I had the strongest yearning for one the next day and since I still haven’t found a good restaurant by my house, I gave into the urge and bought another wrap. I’ve vowed to no longer set foot in KFC, other wise, how the heck am I going to learn to order food?
